He traveled the world playing the sport, and was a top ranked US senior amateur in the 1990's. Gunnar lived the last year of his life in Guilford, CT, in order to be closer to his family. Later, he spent about 15 years living in Aiken, SC. He lived on the Near North side of Chicago, then, in an effort to get away from cold winters, moved to Bal Harbor, FL. He received his Masters from Syracuse University in 1968. He graduated from The Hill School in Pottstown, PA (Class of '58), attended college at the University of Miami (Class of '66), and earned a Master's degree at Syracuse University (Class of '68).Ī veteran, Gunnar served in the US Army from 1960-1963, where he was stationed in Texas and very much enjoyed his time in Panama as a Broadcast Specialist. He grew up in East Hampton, NY and Miami Beach, FL. As handsome as any movie star, he was best known for his sharp mind, quick wit, and effortless charm. Gunnar Brovall Bennett was born in East Orange, New Jersey on January 8, 1941, and died on June 7, 2022, at the age of 81 after a valiant fight against cancer. ![]() At this time, the family does not plan on writing a formal obituary. We learned from his brother, Laurence McKinney '62, that Andrew passed away on September 24, 2022. He was especially blessed by his longtime membership at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 5500 River Road, Bethesda, MD, where a memorial service will be held on Friday, Octoat 2 p.m. Above all, he loved the time he spent with his family, many summers in Stone Harbor, golf officiating, tent camping and traveling with Carol. After retirement, he enjoyed friends and fellowship during the sixteen years he and Carol spent on Skidaway Island, GA, and at the Independent Presbyterian Church of Savannah. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol, of 61 years son Scott (Jill), of Bethesda, MD, David (Kelly) of Owensboro, KY and grandchildren Haley, Caroline, Zan, Jack, MaryScott, Luke, Jay, Eli and his sister, Barbara, of Orange, VA. He spent his career in real estate in Washington, DC and Montgomery County. Born in White Plains, NY in 1928, he was a graduate of The Hill School and Columbia University. Alec McClelland of Chevy Chase passed away at home on October 2, 2022.
